Seth Rogen and Elle Fanning in Talks to Join Chippendales Movie

Comin’ in hot is New Regency, Bold Films, and Permut Productions’ Chippendales, a film that will tell the crazy story full of murder, mayhem, and buff dudes behind the male exotic revue. According to Deadline, Seth Rogen and Elle Fanning are thinking about stepping up to strut their stuff in the new film. The feature has already signed on director Craig Gillespie and BAFTA award-winning actor Dev Patel, who is set to fill the shoes of the leading man and business owner.

The feature will center around Patel’s character, Somen "Steve" Banerjee. An Indian immigrant, Banerjee relocated to Playa del Rey to start fresh and make a name for himself, while also aiming to make a boatload of money. After tiring of owning a Mobil station, the budding tycoon took over the lease on a down and out Los Angeles club named Destiny II. Putting his own spin on the venue to bring more people in, Banerjee changed the club’s name and created events such as one night dedicated to female mud wrestling and another that featured a “male exotic dance night for ladies only”. Soon, the male exotic dance night took off leaving Banerjee and his partners swimming in money to the tune of $8 million yearly from club profits, millions of calendar sales that featured the men baring it all, and their male revue based touring companies.

But that much success rarely comes without a price. One of Banerjee’s co-creators, Paul Snider, was dating a Playboy bunny named Dorothy Stratten. Stratten helped the group come up with Chippendale's iconic look of cuffs and a collar. Further on down the road, after the brand’s glorious beginnings, Snider would murder Stratten before turning the violence on himself and taking his own life. The brutality didn’t stop there as lawsuits and business disagreements involving Banerjee would inevitably take a turn for the worse.

Betting on this film and pushing it along for twenty years is David Permut, who will produce with New Regency and Bold Films. Joining the production team will be Bold Films’ David Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, Michel Litvak, and Svetlana Metkina. Craig Williams and Isaac Adamson were the original script drafters, which was then handed off to Lauren Blum and Rebecca Angelo for rewrites.

Because the actors are still in talks for the production, we are unsure of what part each would play, but it is said that Rogen would most likely portray Chippendales choreographer Nick De Noia with Fanning in the role of Stratten. Both actors have been busy as of late with Rogen appearing in the upcoming Hulu mini-series Pam and Tommy (in which Gillespie was also involved) and The Fablemans, a feature by Steven Spielberg. Meanwhile, Fanning has found success with her series The Great, which just celebrated its Season 2 premiere. The actress is also set to perform in Hulu’s 2022 limited series The Girl From Plainville.

While nothing more is known at this time, we will be sure to keep you posted with updates as they dance in.
